History of the Museo Storico Vaticano

The start of the history of the Museo Storico Vaticano began in 1973. Paul VI had established the museum during this year. The Museo Storico Vaticano was originally located under the„Giardino Quadrato” in the Vatican. Even today, visitors have the opportunity to not only admire the state carriages, saddles, automobiles, and palanquins that various Popes had used, but also the first locomotive model that was created in 1929 in Vatican City. One of the highlights of the history of the Vatican is the Galawagen (a luxury carriage) that was built for Pope Leo XII and was still in use up until the reign of Pius XI. The actual Museo Storico Vaticano is located in the Apostolic Palace of the Lateran. Here you can visit the former apartment of the Pope and chapels, as well as peruse through the Vatican's collection of weapons, valuable icons, and artwork- all of which had contributed and enriched the history of the Vatican somehow.
